February 2012

I’ve been somewhat skeptical of the claims of climate alarmists. So far as I can tell, climate variations experienced in the last century are within the bounds of the climate variations experienced in the last 1000 years. Perhaps that is why Mann and company were so desperate to eliminate the Medieval warming period from the climate record. I’m also somewhat puzzled by the demonization of Carbon Dioxide. If it is so bad, why not regulate the precursor element in the atmosphere? Without O you cannot have CO2.

It turns out that CO2 concentrations have been 10 to 15 times higher in geologic time. World temperatures varied between ice-ball Earth and the balmy Carboniferous era. So much for CO2 being the driver of global climate.

The reality is that almost all life on earth depends on photosynthesis. Plants absorb CO2 to create organic compounds and release oxygen as a waste product. I suspect Obama does not know this. The carbon content of the fossil fuels that we exploit today came from a long ago atmosphere. In my view, it is our God given duty to recycle it back into the atmosphere. Plants will be happier. Humanity will be wealthier, and just maybe, we’ll have a shot at preventing the next Ice Age.

I watched the debate last night. It was clear that Newt was addressing the problems the nation faces while Santorum and Romney squabbled about their records. Today, Newt castigated Obama on Facebook:

It is an outrage that President Obama is the one apologizing to Afghan President Karzai on the same day two American troops were murdered and four others injured by an Afghan soldier. It is Hamid Karzai who owes the American people an apology, not the other way around.

Where were the other GOP candidates on this? Invisible.

I’m not religious but I refuse to say I’m an Atheist, because they all run around acting like their own exclusive religion. I can’t disprove the proposition that God exists so I respect those who have faith that God exists. I also recognize and love the fact that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. The most important of those is that God endows rights; not man. If you do not believe in God, you should interpret this is as a declaration that all men are born equal. An Atheist should also delight in the motto “In God We Trust” because it implies we should trust no mortal. They don’t, of course, because they see the word “God” and go ape-sh*t.

You now know where I stand. Not a Catholic but sympathetic to Christian values. We are left to wonder about the impact of the Obama Administration’s decision to require religious institutions to provide contraceptives and morning-after pills to employees. I suspect they just “jumped the shark”. Loyal Democrats have done their best to explain Obama’s policies, and now, where do they go?

Just for the record, I loathe Romney. Not quite as much as Obama, but close. So I’d vote for him over Obama. But only to get rid of Obama.

Romney had to spend  a lot on money on dishonest, negative advertising to win. His campaign showed Tom Brokaw reporting on Newt’s alleged ethics violations without reporting that Newt was cleared of all of them. Newt paid a $300k fee to pay for the investigation and the IRS eventually concluded there was no wrong-doing.

Romney has a ceiling of support not much higher than he got in 2008. He can win while the conservative vote is split between Gingrich and Santorum. I don’t know if the Ronulans would split for anybody.

Romney has nothing positive to run on. He uses his money to destroy his GOP opponents. He can do it for a while but he can’t do it forever. Just label him Obama 2.0.  If he can’t disavow Romneycare, how can he disavow Romneycare 2.0, aka Obamacare?

If Newt is my only horse in this race then I’ll back him. Anything to beat Obama and Obama 2.0.
