Governor Kasich’s SB5 has gone down in flames and he has only himself to blame. He rammed it through by corrupting the committee process in the State House. It was larded with bureaucratic appointments that were irrelevant to limitations on collective bargaining. Unlike Governor Walker in Wisconsin, Kasich did not exclude safety personnel from the bill. That gave the union forces the opening they needed to deliver a stunning defeat. Kasich and his gang are no friends of the Tea Party Patriots and he got limited support from that quarter.
The Healthcare Freedom bill was strongly supported by the Tea Party Patriots and other liberty groups in Ohio. This was a direct challenge to Obamacare and it passed overwhelmingly. From a 2012 perspective, that is probably the more important result.
