July 2011

He thinks giving poll-tested speeches is leadership. It isn’t.

He thinks borrowing money to finance  his stimulus package is good economics. It isn’t.

He thinks insulting our allies and talking to our enemies will bring peace. It won’t.

He thinks increasing the debt ceiling will maintain our AAA rating. It won’t.

I would suggest he talk to some smart people to get some clues. Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams might be able to bring the clueless one up to speed, but I doubt he is smart enough to understand them. Conservatives have huge respect for both of these scholars. Obama probably hasn’t even heard of them. He lives in a leftist bubble that defies puncturing by reality.

Suppose one could go back in time and interact with the past. Would you be prepared to go back in time to prevent a terrible wrong knowing that doing so destroys you and world of your present time. Almost everyone alive today was born after Hitler took power in Germany. If you could go back in time and kill Hitler, would you do it? Think about the consequences. The world you know and everyone in it would cease to exist in the new future you created. You save the 50 million lives lost in WW2, perhaps, but you condemn to non-existence the billions alive today. Is that a fair trade-off? Would you want that responsibility?

Israel is also home to some of Christianity’s most sacred sites. Muslims have overrun and desecrated  most of the Christian and Jewish sites in their territory. Joseph’s Tomb is but one example. Evangelical Christians seem to have much stronger ties to Israel than the typical liberal Jewish agnostic. As an atheist, I appreciate the role of Jews and Christians in creating a  society in which one does not need to be religious. I do recognize my Judeo-Christian heritage, and I do want to protect it against the threat of Islam.

Israel is civilization’s beacon  in a sea of poverty and ignorance enforced by Islam. We need to keep that light shining.

Sean Hannity catches out Juan Williams in this clip from his show.

Yes, it’s a trick, but notice the reflexive response. Put Obama’s words in Cantor’s mouth and they are transformed into evil GOP propaganda.

Let’s just highlight two stories.

First up, the “Fast and Furious” scandal. Congressional oversight can be a bitch, and the Holder DOJ is just starting to find out what it means. Obama claimed Mexican drug runners were being supplied with guns from the US. He didn’t tell us that his government had a program to do just that. This could be huge.

Second up, the execution of a Mexican piece of scum who raped and killed a 16 year old Texan girl. He was executed tonight despite the Obama administration’s desperate attempts to save the scumbag’s life.

If you are facing the US electorate in 2012, which side of these stories do you want to be on?

Jim Miller thinks nuclear proliferation in the Middle east is inevitable. He quotes Prince Turki al-Faisal, a former Saudi intelligence chief and ambassador to Washington:

We cannot live in a situation where Iran has nuclear weapons and we don’t. It’s as simple as that,” the official said.  “If Iran develops a nuclear weapon, that will be unacceptable to us and we will have to follow suit.

How could Saudi Arabia rapidly become a nuclear power? It could look to Russia and China, but they are allied with Iran. It could look to the US, but its President is clueless. It could look to a country that is threatened by Iran and its allies, but could help. That country is Israel. Don’t be surprised if it happens.
