As any sensible person would do, John Kerry minimized his taxes by doing his yachting in Rhode Island instead of his home state of Massataxachewsets. So far, so good. But when he is called on it:

“We’ve reached out to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and made clear that, whether owed or not, we intend to pay the equivalent taxes as if the boat’s home-port were currently in Massachusetts,” Kerry said in a statement released this afternoon. “That payment is being made promptly.”

What he should have said is that he wouldn’t pay a dime until Massachusetts matched Rhode Island’s taxes. Then he’d bring his boat home. But Kerry is a Dimocrat and they think we plebeians should all pay our taxes while our lordly rulers pay their taxes only after they are caught evading them.

I promptly endorsed it over to Sarah Palin Legal Defense fund and sent it back. It is beyond appalling that she has had to go through this hassle. C4P gives the essential background:

Almost one year after the Obama legal team at the firm Perkins Coie concluded that Governor Palin’s legal defense fund failed to comply with Alaska law, a new investigator dusted off that report and essentially re-issued it.

[Perkins Coie]  represented Salim Ahmed Hamdan, the alleged driver and bodyguard of Osama Bin Laden

Obama has paid Perkins Coie, a single law firm, $2.6 million since he announced his campaign for presidency.

Three little factoids you will never see in the LSM.

Sarah Palin posted a note on Facebook objecting to the construction of a mosque overlooking the site formerly occupied by the World Trade Center towers. She has the support of the majority of Americans on this issue. Yet her Facebook post simply disappeared. Turns out a bunch of anti-free-speech leftists gamed Facebook into deleting her post on the grounds it was “hate-speech”. I kinda suspect this is not going to happen again. The Facebook founders may have been Obama supporters, but I suspect they don’t want to piss off her 1.5 million Facebook fans, they aren’t exactly impressed by Obama’s performance, and, most of all, they don’t want to be in the next President’s bad books.

As a marathoner, I sometimes need professional help to undo the knots in my muscles, cure my tight hamstrings, and help me recover from the injuries that afflict runners. Licensed massage therapists do a great job for me. Some of them are fellow runners. Most of them are women and they can inflict great pain as they dig their fingers into a knotted muscle. One of them said, just before she dug into a particularly tender spot, “take a deep breath”, to which I responded, “so I can scream louder?”.

You see a massage therapist because you need muscle therapy. You go to a massage parlor if you are looking for cheap sex, and can’t get it elsewhere. Al Gore doesn’t seem to know the difference, as Powerline notes:

Here’s a tip, Al: if you’re looking in the Yellow Pages, “therapeutic massages” is not the right section.

Al Gore is one creepy guy.

The long reason is contained in this comment responding to Obama voter Mort Zuckerman’s US News & World Report article Obama’s Anti-Business Policies Are Our Economic Katrina:

From the horse’s mouth

I have owned small businesses for thirty-five years. What the public at large, and government employees and elected officials, do not understand is that business owners and top managers make day-to-day decisions in the same manner that individuals make decisions in their lives (such as what car to buy, where to shop and when to make major purchases).

Many, if not most, of us small business owners keep our mouths shut but we read about what is going on at the State, National, and International level, and those of us who have survived a long time, tend to plan ahead.

Based on what Obama said repeatedly when he was campaigning, our Company began to downsize (planning ahead) and restructuring (planning for the changes Obama told us up front he would introduce (such as healthcare plans that we knew, from years of experience, meant higher premiums for us to pay if we continued to insure our employees).

Also, just like many other businesses, we are not planning massive new products, just some minor changes to existing product lines, because we see that consumers are also not spending freely. We have laid off all staff who are not essential to our newly re-structured organization and are running it very efficiently and cost-effectively because we are concerned that we will have a significant percentage increase in expenses from new government regulations and so on (it costs a great deal of money to suddenly meet new government regulations and we need to have the capital available to use for this or we would have to close our business; i.e. if we can’t spend the cash to meet the new government regulations then we cannot continue in business because the government will close us down. We have to plan ahead (the words ‘plan ahead’ again) for this very real possibility.

The bottom line is, we DO watch and keep our eyes open and we have to plan ahead for the unexpected hand of government to suddenly come down on us. That is the overall environment that the current administration has in play; that the ‘government’ could shut you down with the stroke of Obama’s pen (read oil drilling here, as one example).

The short reason is nicely captured by this Ramirez cartoon.

Look how many elites supported Obama: Warren Buffet, the second richest person in the world, supported Obama. Wall Street went all in for Obama. Hollywood, too. GE and BP lavished campaign donations upon the anointed one. They bought what the Democrat party told them: “Obama is a moderate, just like Bill Clinton, and he’s black, which is historic.” They didn’t ask the key question, which was,” is he competent enough for the job?”.

Turns out he DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE. I think the elites are starting to notice that they chose poorly.

Many of Shakespeare’s most famous heroines disguise themselves as young males. In The Merchant Of Venice, As You Like It and Twelfth Night, the disguise is key to the plot. The Smithsonian tells the story of two illiterate slaves who escaped slavery with an elaborate disguise:

One of the most ingenious escapes was that of a married couple from Georgia, Ellen and William Craft, who traveled in first-class trains, dined with a steamboat captain and stayed in the best hotels during their escape to Philadelphia and freedom in 1848. Ellen, a quadroon with very fair skin, disguised herself as a young white cotton planter traveling with his slave (William). It was William who came up with the scheme to hide in plain sight, but ultimately it was Ellen who convincingly masked her race, her gender and her social status during their four-day trip. Despite the luxury accommodations, the journey was fraught with narrow escapes and heart-in-the-mouth moments that could have led to their discovery and capture. Courage, quick thinking, luck and “our Heavenly Father,” sustained them, the Crafts said in Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom, the book they wrote in 1860 chronicling the escape.

I noted that they were illiterate slaves; they learned to read and write once they had won their freedom. Their story would make a great movie.
