March 2010

She knows that Iran with nuclear weapons is a huge threat to the Sunni states in the region, to Israel, to the West, and to the world’s economy. On her most recent Facebook post, she writes:

Many, many Americans and our allies know that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, the consequences will be catastrophic for our interests in the Middle East, and we want our government to do everything in its power to prevent Iran from acquiring nukes. We foresee a regional nuclear arms race beginning as other countries seek their own nuclear weapons to protect themselves from Iran. Nuclear non-proliferation efforts would be over. The U.S. and our allies in the international community would be shown to be impotent – after long claiming that Iranian nuclear weapons could not and would not be tolerated. And Israel would face the gravest threat since its creation. Iran’s leaders have repeatedly called for the destruction of Israel and with nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them, the mullahs would be in a position to launch a Second Holocaust.

Iran continues to develop long range missiles. Its missiles can reach Israel and Europe right now and in time they will be able to reach US territory.

This issue is the most serious security challenge facing the U.S. in the region. Yet just as the Obama administration inexplicably gives up on imposing crippling sanctions on Iran, it’s taken an uncompromising hard line against one country in the Middle East: Israel. On his recent visit to Washington, the Israeli Prime Minister was treated like an unwelcome guest, as shown by White House actions such as refusing to be photographed with Israel’s Prime Minister.

She is articulating the threat. No other GOP prospect is coming close to her in slamming Obama on his hippie era foreign policy and his anti-Semitism.

I found this NYT article incredibly ignorant.  The premise is that Tea Party protesters  are mostly unemployed. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most of us are employed. We take PTO to attend Tea Party rallies. Everyone I know in the Tea Party movement works for a living. We protest on our own time. We make our own signs.

We can also do simple math. We know that the $100 trillion in the unfunded liabilities of Government run intergenerational Ponzi schemes are going to make every household in America a negative millionaire. Simple math. $100 trillion divided amongst 100 million households equals a negative megabuck per household. That’s just counting the existing Federal Ponzi schemes. Add Obamacare and the megabuck a family goes up a lot.

These are simple facts. Romney Care in Massachusetts has almost bankrupted the state in a few short years. Worse yet, nobody has gotten better care.

Bonus: Read the comments.

Hint for the NYT. Ignorance is curable; stupidity is forever. So far, you have the benefit of the doubt. Please talk to real Tea Party Patriots. Or not. Your loss come November.

Unlike Obama, she identifies with Israel. She wears an Israel flag pin and her Governor’s Office featured the flag of Israel. On Facebook, she just posted a message wishing a happy Passover to the Jewish people.  American Jews dislike her and Caroline Glick analyses why. Here’s a taste:

In spite of Palin’s extraordinary support for Israel, the American Jewish community overwhelmingly rejects her. As Jennifer Rubin noted in her article, “Why Jews hate Palin,” in Commentary magazine, Jews disapproved of Sen. John McCain’s choice of Palin as his running-mate by a 54 to 37 percent margin. The sneering broadsides published against Palin by leading American Jewish writers are legion.

In her article, Rubin gives a number of reasons for American Jews’ rejection of Palin. On the one hand, American Jews, who overwhelmingly self-identify as Democrats and disproportionately identify as liberals, oppose Palin for the same reason they oppose all social conservative Republicans — because she isn’t a liberal Democrat. What makes American Jews’ rejection of Palin unique is its emotional potency. Rubin argues that the visceral hatred that many American Jews express towards Palin is effectively an issue of class hatred, or snobbery. They are four generations removed from the sweatshops where their great grandparents labored on New York’s Lower East Side. And they don’t like this woman with a funny accent who went to University of Idaho, guts fish and shoots moose.

But, if it comes down to a choice between a President who clearly favors the Palestinian cause, and has made utterly unreasonable demands on Israel, and Mrs. Moose Killer, who proudly supports Israel, then Jews may switch sides. If Iran gets nukes on Obama’s watch, then he’ll lose the Jewish vote. If Iran uses nukes against Israel, Obama will be impeached and it will be his Jewish supporters screaming for his blood.

Obama is losing major Democrat constituencies. The retired hate Obamacare because it guts Medicare. White males blame Obama for costing them their jobs. Corporate America is suddenly discovering that Obamacare sucks big-time dollars from bottom lines.  If the Jews go, Obama is gone. And so are the Dems.

If Obama was actually smart, he would employ the bravado he displayed in  Afghanistan against Israel’s enemies. For the “little Satan’s” enemies are the “big Satan’s” enemies  in our enemies’ world view. Maybe Obama is not even aware the Iran celebrates a Death to America day.

On the evidence, I’m pretty sure Palin would not leave Israel to hang out to dry as Obama has. Jews, take note.

How else to explain why Obama is spending more political capital trying to stop the Jews building homes in the Jewish capital than he is in stopping Iran getting nuclear weapons? The Iranian leadership is on record calling for the destruction of the Jewish state. Yet, Obama pursues his anti-Jewish agenda with adolescent arrogance and unbecoming rudeness, even while he offers Iran negotiations without preconditions.

Presumably, Obama wanted to have a Jewish scalp to present to the Arab League Summit in Libya. Luckily, he won’t get that. More importantly, he has annoyed a majority in Congress and he has put his pro-Muslim bias on public display. The Reverend Jeremiah Wright must be proud of his protégé. Patriotic Americans most certainly aren’t.

Senator McCain is a progressive RINO, foisted upon us, as the successor to George Bush, by a feckless Republican Party, and the MSM, which was hell-bent on selecting the worst possible GOP candidate to run against the anointed One. In desperation, McCain thought out of the box, and selected the maverick Palin as his running mate. His poll numbers instantly shot-up and the MSM went into overdrive to destroy the upstart who might deprive the anointed One of his destiny. Unfortunately, the McCain campaign didn’t know what gold they possessed and managed her like a typical VP candidate. Despite that, she struck a chord with the people.

Roll forward to the present. Palin is a political and media super-star who can draw huge crowds and big money to any event. She is blasting her views out to the world via Facebook and Twitter. Fox News is giving her huge exposure and paying her for it. Her book made her a millionaire. In contrast, McCain is a failed Presidential candidate, struggling to get reelected as a State Senator. He rarely makes the news, these days.

So, who is beholden to who? Palin is not beholden to McCain or his policies. But he is definitely beholden to her. Had she not campaigned for him, or, worse yet, campaigned against him, he would lose.

She has already established her position on domestic energy exploitation, yet McCain opposed drilling in ANWAR. Is Sarah (Drill, Baby Drill) going to go against drilling in ANWAR or is she going to tell McCain to grow a brain? Pretty easy call.

She understands Global Warming is bogus. McCain still doesn’t. Will she tell McCain he’s clueless on this issue? Another easy call.

See, it makes sense for Palin to campaign for McCain as Senator of Arizona. If she runs in 2012, he’ll have to support her positions. If he loses, not her problem. He didn’t support her positions.

Bottom line: Palin owns McCain. Not owes. Owns.

Now that the bill is law, major companies are informing their shareholders and the SEC of the impact on them. AT&T hit the headlines with the announcement that:

AT&T Inc. will take a $1 billion non-cash accounting charge in the first quarter because of the health care overhaul and may cut benefits it offers to current and retired workers.

The Democrat’s didn’t want to hear that. Powerline reports on their reaction:

hundreds[of companies] like them will follow [AT&T] as Obamacare becomes a reality. Congressional Democrats, evidently stung by the bad publicity, are trying to strike back. A reader writes:

Good post on the true cost of ObamaCare. But it gets better: the Dems are now shaking down CEOs who don’t get with the program. In the attached letter, Henry Waxman not only orders the CEOs of AT&T, Caterpillar, Deere & Co, and Verizon to testify before the Energy and Commerce Committee, but also to produce internal analyses and emails related to their statements. They don’t expressly subpoena the CEOs, so we can hope that they tell the Dems to GFY, though somehow I doubt that will happen.

The Dems sent these letters to the Republicans on the committee after 6pm tonight with no advance notice or prior cooperation.

Waxman’s letter reads in part:

“The new law is designed to expand coverage and bring down costs, so your assertions are a matter of concern,” said a letter from Waxman and co-chair Bart Stupak inviting executives such as AT&T chief executive Randall Stephenson to testify.

“They also appear to conflict with independent analyses. The Congressional Budget Office has reported that companies that insure more than 50 employees would see a decrease of up to 3% in average premium costs per person by 2016. The Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers from leading U.S. companies, asserted in November 2009 that health care reform could reduce predicted health insurance cost trends for businesses by more than $3,000 per employee over the next 10 years,”

After seeing what the Obama administration did to the auto industry, the finance industry and anyone who got in their way, most companies stayed quiet during the debate on Obamacare. But now they have to deal with law as rammed through by Congress. Waxman is even stupider than I thought, if he believed that the CBO figures had any relation to reality. The Democrats are going to reap what they have sown – a constant stream of bad news about the impact of Obamacare.

Businessweek provides more information on why AT&T’s cost are going up:

AT&T previously received a tax-free benefit from the government to subsidize health-care costs for retirees, who would otherwise be on a Medicare Part D plan. Under the new bill, AT&T will no longer be able to deduct that subsidy.

“As a result of this legislation, including the additional tax burden, AT&T will be evaluating prospective changes to the active and retiree health-care benefits offered by the company,” the carrier said in the filing.

AT&T is heavily unionized. If AT&T is forced to cut benefits, and attributes the cuts to Obamacare, then a lot of union members are going to be very unhappy with the Democrats. That’s good news for the 60% of Americans opposed to Obamacare.

Thomas Sowell  is one of my favorite columnists. He is one of the best exponents of economic common sense. I buy all his books. As I cruise conservative web sites I come across conservatives like Walter Williams and Larry Elders. The people I’ve named have more recent African ancestry then paler Americans. I could care less. I care far more about their opinions.

It’s sort of weird. Almost all prominent leftists in the media are white. Few respected leftist economists are black. I can’t think of any. The best the MSM can haul out are racist hacks like Al Sharpton  and Jesse Jackson.

Conservatives have stars like Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. But we never say, hey, look, we have an African-American on our side. We have something far more important to say; here’s an American you need to read. As I keep saying, it is a pity our current President is utterly incapable of understanding the advice that Thomas Sowell would provide.
