Look at the NY District 23 race. Joshuapundit wrote:

The suits at the RNC just spent almost a million smackers on a Leftard ‘Republican’ they tried to impose on a district that went GOP by 60% in 2008. Sozzafava took the money and ran, dropped out, and then let herself be bribed by the Obama White House to endorse the Democrat. That’s whom they chose. That’s who the party establishment was backing.

But, when it came to Teddy Kennedy’s seat, the RNC did nothing. The Boston Herald reported:

GOP U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown has been all but abandoned by the same national Republican committees that pumped hundreds of thousands in campaign cash to former governors Mitt Romney and William Weld during their long-shot bids for U.S. Senate.

The snub has outraged local Republicans who say national conservatives should be jumping at the chance to nab the first open Senate seat in decades despite Brown’s tough odds in the Jan. 19 special election.

“They need to give Scott a level playing field,” said former state GOP chairman Peter Torkildsen. “It’s one of those rare opportunities that a Republican has a good shot in Massachusetts.”

But even Brown has downplayed his lack of national GOP firepower in his race against Democrat Martha Coakley, saying, “We’re doing very, very well on our own, and I don’t want to be beholden to anybody at this point.”

Reportedly, Brown was raising a million bucks a day in the final days of the campaign. A lot of that came from grassroots people; the sort of people who descended on Washington on 9/12/2009. Tea Party and 9.12 members were a big factor in Brown’s win. Brown ran as an unabashed conservative. He talked about lower taxes, strong defense, no rights for terrorists, and opposed Obamacare. The message to the RNC should be “No more RINOs”.
