March 2007

Just watched the Fox News program on Bergergate. The DOJ stone-walled Fox News and sees no point in giving Berger the polygraph he was supposed to take. Nobody except Berger and his accomplices know what he stole and destroyed from the National Archives. Taking the criminal’s word that he just made an “honest mistake” is clearly inadequate.

Meanwhile, Libby ‘s life has been destroyed by an out-of-control prosecutor who continued his investigation of a non-crime long after the perpetrator had confessed to the DOJ.

I’m going to fault Gonzales on both issues.

In the run-up to the 2004 election the Democrats and the MSM made a big deal about alleged Republican corruption. The Plame Blame Game played into the Democrat’s strategy. Gonzales should have shut down Fitzgerald as soon as it was known to the DOJ that Armitage was the leaker, and taken that issue off the table. But he let it hang around like a bad smell.

The Berger case was one where Gonzales could have put the Democrats, especially the Clintonistas, on the defense, by vigorously pursuing Berger. God knows, were the position reversed, a Republican perpetrator would be lucky to escape solitary in a federal pen next to terrorists like Ramzi Yousef.

In fact, the Bushies should have gotten into the mindset of asking “How would the Clintonista’s exploit/spin/explain this situation”. Once they figured that out, they could then develop a strategy to aggressively counter the lies and spin with the facts. A complete investigation of Berger, and the multitude of National Security leakers, followed by trials à la Fitzgerald, would have put the heat where it belonged.

Gonzales has been a babe-in-the-woods and he’s being eaten alive by the loathsome Senator Schumer.

I rolled up my sleeves and threw a bunch of MYSQL queries at this blog’s database and removed 200,000 spamming trackbacks (sping) and 50,000 spamming comments. On the way I learned a bit about PHP, the language used by this blog’s software (PHP is a widely used but primitive web scripting language, that is, compared to Java and the .Net platform.)

At least I know how to get rid of the crud. My next project is to force some human interaction by anyone making a comment. What I’d really like to do is jail those vile parasites that infest the web, stealing bandwidth and resources.

From Free Republic:

Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) said Tuesday that he did not give staffer Phillip Thompson the pistol whose possession got the aide arrested Monday when he tried to enter the Russell Senate office building. “I have never carried a gun in the Capitol complex and I did not give the weapon to Phillip Thompson, and that’s all that I think I’ll say,” Webb told reporters.

“I think this is one of those very unfortunate situations where, completely inadvertently, he took the weapon into the Senate yesterday,” Webb added. The senator noted that he was in New Orleans from Friday until Monday. He speculated that the incident happened because three of his cars were moved because of the trip.

“Everyone here knows that I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, that I have had a permit to carry a weapon in Virginia for a long time, and I believe that it’s important — it’s important for me, personally, and for a lot of people in the situation that I’m in, to be able to defend myself and my family.”

Captain’s Quarters has a little more information:

Webb put on quite a bizarre little show. He staunchly defended the Second Amendment, something that even some Republicans won’t do these days, and insisted that he needed to carry concealed weapons because of his stature. He noted that Presidents get Secret Service protection but not Senators or Congressmen, which is true, but not really terribly germane. Congress could create that kind of protection service for itself, or fund it through the Secret Service. Webb also refused to state whether he violates DC law, which requires registration which Webb apparently does not have for his weapons.

And while Webb waxed loquacious about his personal need for security, he never mentioned any effort on his part to allow other DC residents the right to make the same decision about their own safety, even though the GOP had offered an amendment to allow them to do just that last week.

If we parse what he said and what he didn’t say, it is obvious that he did not deny packing heat in D.C. Since his guns are not registered there, he has likely been breaking the law. He should thank his lucky stars he is not a Republican.

Copied from Michelle Malkin:

Dear Muslim Terrorist Plotter/Planner/Funder/Enabler/Apologist,

You do not know me. But I am on the lookout for you. You are my enemy. And I am yours.

I am John Doe.

I am traveling on your plane. I am riding on your train. I am at your bus stop. I am on your street. I am in your subway car. I am on your lift.

I am your neighbor. I am your customer. I am your classmate. I am your boss.

I am John Doe.

I will never forget the example of the passengers of American Airlines Flight 93 who refused to sit back on 9/11 and let themselves be murdered in the name of Islam without a fight.

I will never forget the passengers and crew members who tackled al Qaeda shoe-bomber Richard Reid on American Airlines Flight 63 before he had a chance to blow up the plane over the Atlantic Ocean.

I will never forget the alertness of actor James Woods, who notified a stewardess that several Arab men sitting in his first-class cabin on an August 2001 flight were behaving strangely. The men turned out to be 9/11 hijackers on a test run.

I will act when homeland security officials ask me to “report suspicious activity.”

I will embrace my local police department’s admonition: “If you see something, say something.”

I am John Doe.

I will protest your Jew-hating, America-bashing “scholars.”

I will petition against your hate-mongering mosque leaders.

I will raise my voice against your subjugation of women and religious minorities.

I will challenge your attempts to indoctrinate my children in our schools.

I will combat your violent propaganda on the Internet.

I am John Doe.

I will support law enforcement initiatives to spy on your operatives, cut off your funding, and disrupt your murderous conspiracies.

I will oppose all attempts to undermine our borders and immigration laws.

I will resist the imposition of sharia principles and sharia law in my taxi cab, my restaurant, my community pool, the halls of Congress, our national monuments, the radio and television airwaves, and all public spaces.

I will not be censored in the name of tolerance.

I will not be cowed by your Beltway lobbying groups in moderate clothing. I will not cringe when you shriek about “profiling” or “Islamophobia.”

I will put my family’s safety above sensitivity. I will put my country above multiculturalism.

I will not submit to your will. I will not be intimidated.

I am John Doe.

Pass it on.

The Democratic Congressmen and Congresswomen who voted no on the procedural vote to protect public-transportation passengers who report suspicious activity would not be likely to sign this John Doe manifesto.

My wife reported a suspicious passenger when we were flying from London back to the US. This young man was seated in the window seat in our row. He wasn’t wearing a jacket and wasn’t carrying anything. He seemed very nervous and kept pulling open his shirt and sniffing. Was his deodorant failing or was his bomb starting to fizz? He suddenly jumped out of his seat and took another seat way forward of us. I brushed his torso as he lunged past us to see if he was wearing any hardware under his shirt. My wife found one of the flight crew and explained what had happened. My wife suggested that she would walk to the front of the cabin to get a magazine and scratch her head when she spotted him. The flight attendant checked the passenger that my wife had identified. It turns out that the man was the son of one of the pilots and very nervous/upset about something. It cost us nothing to ensure our suspicions were unfounded. Would the threat of suit stopped us from reporting the odd behavior? No way. Better sued than dead.

Good evening. Tonight I am going to explain why I am vetoing the Democrat’s plan to force a US withdrawal from Iraq by next year. The primary reason is that it would be handing our enemies a massive victory they haven’t earned on the battlefield. Our men and women in uniform have never been beaten in battle. The enemy has never been able to score a victory against our armed forces. And they never will. But they can score a victory against our nation, and the Democrat’s plan will give them that victory.

Back in 1996, Osama bin Ladin declared war on the US. In his declaration he said, and I am quoting his words now:

We say to the Defence Secretary that his talk can induce a grieving mother to laughter! and shows the fears that had enshrined you all. Where was this false courage of yours when the explosion in Beirut took place on 1983 AD (1403 A.H). You were turned into scattered pits and pieces at that time; 241 mainly marines solders were killed. And where was this courage of yours when two explosions made you to leave Aden in lees than twenty four hours!

But your most disgraceful case was in Somalia; where- after vigorous propaganda about the power of the USA and its post cold war leadership of the new world order- you moved tens of thousands of international force, including twenty eight thousands American solders into Somalia. However, when tens of your solders were killed in minor battles and one American Pilot was dragged in the streets of Mogadishu you left the area carrying disappointment, humiliation, defeat and your dead with you. Clinton appeared in front of the whole world threatening and promising revenge , but these threats were merely a preparation for withdrawal. You have been disgraced by Allah and you withdrew; the extent of your impotence and weaknesses became very clear. It was a pleasure for the “heart” of every Muslim and a remedy to the “chests” of believing nations to see you defeated in the three Islamic cities of Beirut , Aden and Mogadishu.

Do the American people really want to let Osama bin Ladin say that he defeated us in Baghdad, and Fallujah, and Mosul, and Basra, and Kirkut and all the cities and towns of Iraq? Because, if we pull out of Iraq before the job is done, that is exactly what he will say and he would be right.

If we set a date certain for withdrawing from Iraq, Al Qaeda will simply wait for us to leave. The Iraqi people, who have supported us, will fear for their lives after we leave. The Al Qaeda terrorists will take advantage of their fears and intimidate or kill any Iraqi who supported the US. The Shi’ite militias, supported by Iran, will also prepare for our departure. The result will be a bloodbath and a human catastrophe worse than what happened when we abandoned South East Asia to the evils of Communism. Millions died then and millions will die if the Democrat’s plan is allowed to proceed.

Our retreat from Vietnam was bad enough. But our retreat from Iraq and the Middle East will have devastating consequences to the world. Al Qaeda will gain a strategic safe haven and access to massive oil wealth. Iran will have free reign to complete its nuclear weapons program and threaten the region and the rest of the world. Their leaders have spoken openly about using nuclear weapons to destroy Israel.

In 2000 and 2004, the people of the United States elected me as President. The constitution of the United States confers on the President the title and powers of Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces. The mid-term elections of 2006 did not elect a new Commander-in-Chief. If Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to be Commander-in-Chief, then let her run for President in 2008. If Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wants to be Commander-in-Chief, then let him run for President in 2008.

Let me make one point very clear. The Democrats are playing domestic politics with the fate of our men and women in uniform. The proof is the $6 billion dollars of pork they added to a bill that was supposed to fund our troops fighting terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan. That is political cynicism at its most disgusting.

I will veto any funding bill that imposes a timetable. I will veto any funding bill that hamstrings our commanders in the field. I will veto any bill that includes pork. I will veto any bill that gives aid and comfort to our enemy. I will veto any bill that lets Osama bin Ladin claim victory over America.

If the Democrats really support our troops, then let them show it with a clean bill that funds our troops. Thank you and God bless America.

The Senate followed the House in voting to surrender in Iraq. Presidential hopeless Hagel turned into Judas and stabbed his President in the back. The worst of it is that the new commander has not been given a chance even though the situation in Iraq has improved markedly in the last two months.

The Strata-sphere does point out that:

In Congress a funding bill is different from legislation regarding laws. Laws are binding, once passed, until revoked with a new round of legislation. Funding bills are only good for the fiscal year and can be overwritten with supplementals or the actual budget bill for the next year. That is why everything outside the funding in these Democrat surrender bills is really not binding. They are for moving dollars. They cannot really establish laws.

I hope he’s right although I doubt our Sunni and Shi’ite enemies will see the subtleties. To them, and to the Democrats, a US surrender in Iraq is a great victory, bigger than Vietnam.

Braden Files links to an op-ed by Paul E. Marek in Israel National News entitled “Why the Peaceful Majority is Irrelevant”. He writes:

We are told again and again by experts and talking heads that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unquantified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.

The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars world wide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or execute honor killings.

It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. The hard, quantifiable fact is that the “peaceful majority” is the “silent majority,” and it is cowed and extraneous.

Marek concludes:

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Bosnians, Afghanis, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians and many others, have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us, watching it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts: the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

There is another group of fanatics we need to fear just as much. They look like us, dress like us, talk like us and live amongst us. They spend every waking moment dreaming up ways to undermine us in this fight against an implacable enemy. Know their names: Pelosi, Murtha, Reid, Schumer, Murphy, Kennedy, Kerry, Obama, Edwards and hordes more. They have one thing in common; they are radical Democrats, one and all, and the moderate Democrats cannot hold them back.
