AP reports that Al Qaeda has announced that an Egyptian terrorist group has joined Al Qaeda:

“We announce to the Islamic nation the good news of the unification of a great faction of the knights of the Gamaa Islamiya … with the al-Qaida group,” Ayman al-Zawahri said in the videotape aired on the Al-Jazeera news network.

Al-Zawahri, who is Egyptian, said the Egyptian group was led by Mohammed al-Islambouli, the younger brother of Khaled al-Islambouli, the militant who assassinated Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat in 1981 and was later executed.

Meanwhile, the FBI is looking for 11 Egyptian students who entered the US on student visas but failed to show at Montana State University:

The 11 Egyptian men were among a larger group of students who arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York from Cairo on July 29 with valid visas, according to FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

The others have arrived at the Bozeman, Mont., campus. When the 11 didn’t turn up by the end of the last week, the FBI issued a lookout to state and local law enforcement, said FBI Special Agent Richard Kolko.

“At this point all they have done is not show up for a scheduled academic program,” Kolko said. “There is no threat associated with these men.”

They are between 18 and 22 years old, said a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the search for the men is continuing.

How better to celebrate the merger of two terrorist groups than by a major attack on US soil? I sure hope the FBI finds these guys pronto, just in case they really are bad guys.
